Suzhou Dayang Mountain slow traffic system design
Slow Traffic System Design
Suzhou Dayang Mountain, China
Design Philosophy:
The design looks forward to weaving together the various colours of the city embodied in past, present and future. The entire site is segregated into different zones, and each zone is provided with a differently themed walkway. The basic technical structure of the walkways are similar but they are designed with varied additional elements to highlight one broad theme – themed trails.
The four themes used are – modern city, canal city, silk city and garden city. The themes originate from the existing identity and the ancient history of the city. Some of the important trails are also designed to collaborate with one or two themes together.
The trail-tracks are raised on pillars at some points to have minimum impact on the natural environment, and also the changing directions of the slope creates an interesting experience for the tourists. Trails will meander its way up to the top so that the steep slopes can be kept to a minimum. There will be various seating spaces, exhibition halls, pavilions and retail options throughout the trail. One structural prototype will be repeated at certain intervals, accommodating one activity at a time. For example, the garden city will have stalls selling the fresh farm produce and silk city will have silk exhibitions. Overall, the trails will look after the need of each potential visitor, given the fact that there is a widespread increase in the ageing population of Suzhou. (Teamwork)
